Trip to DC to Celebrate July 4th!
Made another visit to Washington DC — this time to celebrate July 4th and the 250th Anniversary of our founding! What an extraordinary week to be in our nation’s capital! My two sons and myself attended the Great American State Fair and evening fireworks show and had a fantastic time, even with the summer heat. Loved seeing federal buildings lit in red, white, and blue!
Spectacular Brick Residence in Ladue, Missouri
This spectacular brick residence in Saint Louis, Missouri was so interesting to portray. This sprawling home features a welcoming, spacious front porch with three stone facade archways and full glass entry doors and windows — just beautiful! This 10″x 18″ watercolor artwork was a joy to create and the third custom house portrait for my client Julie and her husband — their other two homes were extraordinary too.
Visit to Hillwood Estate, Museum, and Gardens
Our trip to Washington, DC included a visit to Hillwood Estate and it was extraordinary! This oasis in the nation’s capital was the home of Marjorie Merriweather Post,( 1887 – 1973) the heiress to the Postum Cereal Company, later General Foods, and at the time, the wealthiest woman in America. In 1955, Marjorie Post purchased Hillwood Estate as her spring and autumn residence and spent two years renovating it. She was a serious collector of French decorative and fine art of the 1700’s and Imperial Russia in the 1800’s and 1900’s and they are on display in the home, which now serves as a museum. Visit to the White House in Washington, DC
Our visit to the White House in DC on June 5th was amazing and memorable! Seeing the extraordinary architecture of this historic building in person was truly breathtaking. The tour included the main floor and each room had a guide highlighting the points of interest and answering questions – all so interesting! The exquisite period furniture, gorgeous chandeliers, and ornately framed portrait artwork were awe-inspiring to see. The long wait in line while going through three separate security checkpoints was worth it! Tour tickets can be obtained by going to the White House website.
Another Fascinating Trip to Washington, DC
My husband and I just returned from another fascinating trip to Washington, DC visiting our youngest son Chaz and his wife Katie! This time we brought our daughter Lauren and two grandchildren and everyone had a terrific time! We took them to national museums and magnificent monuments in DC and saw the recently renovated historic fountains – all amazing to see. My husband and I even toured the White House – it’s architecture is impressive and so beautiful! Saw the spectacular Iwo Jima Memorial in Arlington, VA too! Given the 250 Year Anniversary of our Independence Day is coming up in just a few weeks, it was a very exciting and extraordinary time to be there!
