Watercolor Portrait of Family’s Home for Meaningful Gift
This 9″ x 14″ watercolor portrait of a family’s long-time home in St. Louis County, Missouri will be a meaningful gift from my client Michelle to her husband. His parents owned the home for 56 years until it was recently sold, and he and his siblings share so many good memories of this lovely brick ranch. Michelle plans to have giclee prints made for her husband’s siblings and give as Christmas gifts — a very thoughtful thing to do! If your family’s home is dear to you and you would like it portrayed, contact me to reserve a spot on my schedule.
Portrait Of A Home In Algonquin, Illinois
This portrait of a home in Algonquin, Illinois was a joy to create! The 11″ x 17″ pen and ink with watercolor artwork depicts the new home of a very special newlywed couple and is my wedding gift to them. I wanted to give them something really special, and a custom house portrait of their newly built home is the perfect gift! The home was built towards the end of 2022, and we were just waiting for the landscape to be in full summer bloom. The addition of their beloved dogs are a sweet touch and makes the artwork even more meaningful! If you too would like to give a house portrait as a gift to someone special, send me a message here.

This 9″x 17″ custom watercolor house portrait of a home in Arcadia, Oklahoma was especially interesting and an honor to create. Located on a stretch of East Old Highway 66, this home belongs to a friend I had the pleasure of working with almost 40 years ago when she and I were staff illustrators for a national company, Shellee Graham, and her husband, Jim Ross. Shellee commissioned the artwork as a gift for Jim because of his involvement in the creation of the home. Inspired by a 1930s-era brick Phillips 66 cottage-style service station in nearby Chandler, Oklahoma, Jim created all the drawings and blueprints for the design. Details like a tapered chimney, steep pitched gable over the front door, and an Oklahoma Route 66 shield encircled by bricks, were all incorporated into the home. And just to the left is a 1950s-era gas pump with a Phillips 66 glass globe on top that still lights up at night. Shellee says sometimes people ask if they can fill up at the pump!
Both Shellee and Jim are dedicated advocates and preservationists for this highway. This stretch of road carried original Route 66 traffic from 1926-1952, and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. They both designed and installed the National Register signs in April of 2021. I hope this house portrait is a reminder of just how special their home on historic Old Highway 66 is!

I’m currently working on a watercolor portrait of an interesting home in Arcadia, Oklahoma. It is located on an original stretch of historic Old Highway 66, and was designed to resemble a 1930s vintage, Phillips 66 cottage-style, filling station from decades past. The husband and wife homeowners are both dedicated and passionate advocates for this highway. Husband Jim Ross is a noted Route 66 historian, author and preservationist, and his wife Shellee Graham is an accomplished photographer, graphic designer, and author. Together, they use their talents to inspire interest and promote this historic highway, including its landmarks. I look forward to completing their 9″x 17″ watercolor custom house portrait tomorrow and showing them the image — I think they will be pleased!
