House Portrait of Home in Arcadia, Oklahoma for Gift
This 9″x 17″ custom watercolor house portrait of a home in Arcadia, Oklahoma was especially interesting and an honor to create. Located on a stretch of East Old Highway 66, this home belongs to a friend I had the pleasure of working with almost 40 years ago when she and I were staff illustrators for a national company, Shellee Graham, and her husband, Jim Ross. Shellee commissioned the artwork as a gift for Jim because of his involvement in the creation of the home. Inspired by a 1930s-era brick Phillips 66 cottage-style service station in nearby Chandler, Oklahoma, Jim created all the drawings and blueprints for the design. Details like a tapered chimney, steep pitched gable over the front door, and an Oklahoma Route 66 shield encircled by bricks, were all incorporated into the home. And just to the left is a 1950s-era gas pump with a Phillips 66 glass globe on top that still lights up at night. Shellee says sometimes people ask if they can fill up at the pump!
Both Shellee and Jim are dedicated advocates and preservationists for this highway. This stretch of road carried original Route 66 traffic from 1926-1952, and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. They both designed and installed the National Register signs in April of 2021. I hope this house portrait is a reminder of just how special their home on historic Old Highway 66 is!

Recipients Unwrap Their House Portrait Gift
I wish it were possible to always watch as recipients unwrap their house portrait gifts and see them for the first time! I can when local clients pick up their artwork, and it’s always a joy to see their face light up with smiles. When out-of town clients show me photos, it’s very thoughtful and appreciated — it’s the next best thing to being there! This past weekend, on January 23, the parents of my client Samantha G received the watercolor painting of their lake house she and her siblings ordered for them as a gift when they were finally able to celebrate Christmas together. Special thanks to Samantha for showing me these photos — as you can see, her parents were surprised and delighted! This is the second home portrait I’ve created for them — the first was a watercolor portrait of their residence commissioned by Samantha and her siblings in 2019 and you can see it hanging on the wall behind them in a very nice mat and frame. Best wishes to this mother and father who are very loved by their family — I wish them many more enjoyable weekends together at their lake house retreat! What a very special place! The first custom house portrait of 2021 portrays a rustic lake house property in Ticonderoga, New York and is a gift from adult children to their parents. This 8″ x 12″ watercolor includes some of the nicely landscaped area that surrounds the cabin, including where the family enjoys campfires, and a view of Rogers Rock across the lake in the distance — all important to show. I hope this artwork will remind the parents and their family of the many enjoyable weekends they spent there over the years — and many more yet to come! Watercolor of Family’s New Home
This beautiful, lush property was so interesting to portray. The 9″x 14″ watercolor depicts a family’s new home in Sea Island, Georgia commissioned by a husband as a Christmas gift for his wife. The spacious, contemporary residence is surrounded by graceful live oaks, ferns, and gardens of flowering white azaleas, iris, and camellias — so lovely! This beautiful property is also close to the beach — a true paradise! Best wishes to them for many happy years in this gorgeous residence!
Watercolor House Portrait for a Mother’s Gift
This 8″ x 12″ watercolor painting depicts a family’s longtime, beloved home in Forest Grove, Oregon. It was a very heartfelt gift from three adult children to their mom when the home was recently sold after many decades of living in this residence — so many memories there! This custom house portrait portrays the landscape in early spring bloom, and a hint of a glowing fireplace is seen through the large picture window — a sweet memory for all! What a spectacular property! This newly completed 12″ x 19″ watercolor house painting depicts a large, architecturally modern home located in Chesterfield, Missouri and it was so interesting to capture. The artwork was commissioned as a Christmas gift from thoughtful sisters to their brother and his wife and I hope they will be pleased with the portrayal. Watercolor House Portrait of Client’s Childhood Home
This house portrait was a joy and honor to create! The recipient, Marlene, is a past client who had ordered a portrait for her adult daughter Julie and her family several years ago, and recently Julie ordered this 8″ x 10″ watercolor portrait for her for a Christmas gift! This brick residence in St. Louis, Missouri had been Marlene’s childhood home many years ago and there are many sweet memories. I’ve had hundreds of clients commission house portraits from me over the past 22 years, and I can honestly say that Marlene is one of my favorites. Her charming personality and joy for life are memorable, and I was delighted to create this home portrait for her!

This newly completed 9″ x 15″ watercolor painting of a home at the Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri is the result of a Gift Certificate thoughtful friends gave to the homeowners who were moving to Texas.
